Self Tapping Screw for Plastics

Self Tapping Screw for Plastics

Our Torx Pan Head PT® Thread Self-Tapping Screw is a highly specialized fastener engineered for superior performance when assembling thermoplastic components. It combines three key features for optimal results: a high-torque Torx drive, a versatile pan head, and a specialized “PT” thread profile designed specifically for plastics. This combination creates a strong, reliable joint that resists loosening and stripping while minimizing stress on the plastic material itself. It is the ideal fastening solution for high-volume manufacturing in the automotive, electronics, and appliance industries where secure and repeatable assembly is critical.

Product Details

The exceptional performance of this screw stems from its advanced design. The “PT” thread is a thread-forming design with a narrow 30° flank angle and a large core diameter. This profile allows the screw to displace the plastic material as it is driven in, forming a strong mating thread without the high radial stress that causes cracking in plastic bosses. This results in significantly higher pull-out resistance and resistance to vibrational loosening compared to standard self-tapping screws.

The Torx (or star) drive provides a secure engagement between the driver bit and the screw, allowing for higher torque transmission without the risk of “cam-out” (the driver slipping out and damaging the screw head or the workpiece). This is particularly advantageous in automated assembly lines. The pan head offers a classic, low-profile finish with a good bearing surface, making it suitable for a wide variety of applications.

We offer these screws in high-strength carbon steel (Grades 4.8 to 12.9) and corrosion-resistant stainless steel, with a vast array of finishes to meet any environmental or aesthetic requirement.
